Welcome to Laleham Gap School. We are very lucky to be in a brand new purpose built school, situated in Ramsgate, with ample room for us to explore our new outside grounds. Our grounds are gradually being developed since moving in in January 2016 and we aim work with our pupils to provide stimulating outside spaces for them to enjoy.
Laleham Gap School has a strong tradition of providing high quality education for pupils aged between 4 and 16 years and offers both day and weekly residential places providing education for over 190 children and young people and all pupils have a statement of education needs (SEN) / Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP).
We promote high quality attainment and achievement and provides a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum for each pupil with an emphasis on progress and academic skills. Alongside this we work hard to ensure pupil’s communication skills are supported with the most appropriate support methods being used.
Class sizes are small. Usually there are 8-10 children in a class, led by an experienced and specialist teacher working with a team of skilled teaching assistants and supported by in-house therapy staff. For our youngest children, there is a dedicated and well-resourced Foundation Stage/Key Stage 1 classroom, with access to the exciting outdoor areas where learning is extended. Across the primary school, pupils make at least good, and often outstanding, progress. Most Year 6 pupils will be able to take some national tests (SATs), at the end of Key Stage 2, with good results. Our secondary pupils go on to achieve excellent outcomes including a range of GCSE’s, BETec, Functional skills and Vocational skills qualifications. Pupils follow the National Curriculum, which is adapted to meet their additional and individual needs, offering them the best chance of success.
Laleham Gap is a thriving, challenging and happy environment and its one that works because all pupils, teachers, support colleagues, governors, parents and carers play a major part in raising standards, aiming high and aspiring to achieve the best they can for pupils.
Through our pastoral care arrangements and provision, we continually strive for the best for our pupils’ personal and social development. We aim for all of our Pupils to feel secure and well equipped by the time they leave Laleham Gap to deal with working life, college, apprenticeships. We aim for them to be able to be successful and fully participating members of the school and its wider community and to make a positive contribution to society.
